Hong Kong boccia player Leung Yuk-wing gave his very best but fell short of defending his paralympic gold medal in the individual BC4 event.
The winner in Rio 2016 lost to Thailand’s Pornchok Larpyen 6-3 in the semi-finals in Tokyo on Tuesday.
In a repeat of the final-four showdown five years ago, Leung jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead but Pornchok came roaring back, winning the next six to book in a place in the final where he will face Samuel Andrejcik of Slovakia.
Andrejcik beat China’s Zheng Yuansen 5-2 in the other semi-final.
Leung and Zheng will play in the bronze medal match on Wednesday morning.
Hong Kong’s other boccia players, Vivian Lau and paralympic debutant Yeung Hiu-lam, both lost in the quarter-finals.
