Adrian Yung wraps up HK’s role in Games with a DNF

Hong Kong’s participation in the Beijing Winter Olympics ended on a disappointing note on Wednesday, as skier Adrian Yung was unable to finish his heat in the men’s slalom event.

Yung, 17, missed a gate early on in his run before going off the course as he was making a turn before the half-way mark.

He had also registered a DNF (did not finish) in his run in the giant slalom on Sunday after he lost a ski during the race.

The sunny weather at the Yanqing National Ski Centre on Wednesday was a far cry from the blizzard seen four days earlier, but it wasn’t enough to lead to a better outcome.

The teen was among more than 30 skiers who did not finish the first run of the race.

Along with Yung, two other Hong Kong athletes – alpine skier Audrey King and short track speed skater Sidney Chu – also took part in the Games as part of the biggest team the SAR had ever sent to a Winter Olympics.
