Hong Kong takes silver in mixed pair boccia BC4 event

Hong Kong boccia players on Saturday claimed silver in the mixed pair BC4 event at the Tokyo Paralympics after losing 3-2 to Slovakia.

It was a tightly fought match, with the SAR’s Leung Yuk-wing and Vivian Lau taking the first game 1-0 and the Slovakian defending champions winning the next two 2-0 and 1-0.

However, Leung and Lau only managed to score a single point in the fourth game and weren’t able to go into a tie-break.

Speaking to reporters after the medal ceremony, Leung said they were very happy with the results and thanked Hongkongers for their support.

Lau was also happy, saying she had finally won a medal after three paralympics.

Chief Executive Carrie Lam congratulated the paralympians, including reserve Wong Kwan-hang, for winning a third medal for Hong Kong in the games.

“With rich experience, superb skills and team spirit, the athletes put on excellent performances in the competitions and claimed a medal … Hong Kong people and I are overjoyed and are proud of the achievements of the three athletes,” Lam said in a statement.

Leung has also won bronze in the individual BC4 event, while table tennis player Wong Ting-ting won a bronze medal in the Women’s Singles TT11 event.
