In a major accomplishment for one of Hong Kong’s young athletes, Kaylin Hsieh claimed silver at the American Collegiate Fencing Championships.
Her podium finish in the individual women’s epee helped the University of Notre Dame to their 11th national title.
The 19-year-old missed the gold medal by just a single point. She won her semifinal bout 15-19 but lost 14-13 to Laura Fekete of Long Island University in the gold-medal contest.
Hsieh is part of the Hong Kong women’s epee team who qualified for the Olympics last week. She’s also the second member of that team to win an NCAA medal. Vivian Kong won gold for Stanford in 2014.
