Brunei COVID-19 cases rise for 3rd straight week

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN / YANGON / SINGAPORE / HANOI / ISLAMABAD / MANILA – Brunei logged a daily average of 388 new COVID-19 cases in the past week compared to 307 cases per day the week before, an increase of three consecutive weeks, official statistics released on Monday showed.

According to the health ministry's weekly briefing, 40,321 antigen rapid test test results were uploaded to the government platform within one week, with 6.7 percent of them being positive.

Currently, no hospitalized cases are held in the intensive care unit and no cases require oxygen assistance, the health ministry said.

As of Oct 16, 78.6 percent of Brunei's population have received three doses of COVID-19 vaccines, while 10.7 percent have taken the fourth dose.

Myanmar

Myanmar confirmed 284 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the tally to 628,861, the country's Ministry of Health said on Monday.

The ministry said in a statement that the death toll from COVID-19 in the country reached 19,471 on Monday as one new death was reported.

Pakistan

Pakistan recorded 38 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday, its ministry of health said on Monday.

The overall tally of infected people increased to 1,573,403 after adding the new cases, according to data released by the ministry.

A total of 30,621 people have died of COVID-19 in Pakistan, with one new death reported in the country during the last 24 hours, according to the ministry.

Philippines

The Philippines reported 1,938 new COVID-19 infections on Monday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the Southeast Asian country to 3,984,815.

The Department of Health said the number of active cases dropped to 25,848, while 37 more patients died from COVID-19 complications, taking the death toll to 63,547.

Metro Manila, the Philippine capital with over 13 million people, tallied 743 new cases.

Singapore

Singapore reported 5,196 new cases of COVID-19 on Monday, bringing the total tally to 2,017,261.

Of the new cases, 522 were detected through PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests and 4,674 through ART (antigen rapid test) tests, according to statistics released by the country's Ministry of Health.

Among the PCR cases, 503 were local transmissions and 19 were imported cases. Among the ART cases with mild symptoms and assessed to be of low risk, there were 4,525 local transmissions and 149 imported cases.

Two new deaths from COVID-19 were reported on Monday, taking the total death toll to 1,646.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 673 new COVID-19 cases on Monday, up by 348 from Sunday, according to its ministry of health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the health ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,493,271. The country reported two new deaths from the pandemic in the central coastal Binh Thuan and southern Tay Ninh provinces on Monday, bringing the total fatalities to 43,157.
