TEHRAN – The foreign ministers of Iran and Saudi Arabia held a phone conversation to follow up on the progress of reopening diplomatic missions, said the Iranian foreign ministry on Friday.
In the Thursday phone call, Iran's Hossein Amir-Abdollahian and Saudi Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud agreed that the technical teams sent by the two countries to each other have done a positive and constructive job, according to a statement posted on the ministry's website.
Amir-Abdollahian said that his ministry and the Iranian technical teams in the Saudi capital Riyadh and port city Jeddah are making efforts to reopen the diplomatic missions there before the start of the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, in late June
The two top diplomats also agreed that the two countries are moving toward further cooperation.
Amir-Abdollahian said that his ministry and the Iranian technical teams in the Saudi capital Riyadh and port city Jeddah are making efforts to reopen the diplomatic missions there before the start of the Hajj, the Muslim pilgrimage to Mecca, in late June.

He praised the Saudi technical team for delivering good outcomes during their visits to the Iranian capital Tehran and the northeastern city of Mashhad.
The Saudi foreign minister, for his part, expressed hope that he would soon meet with his Iranian counterpart in Riyadh and Tehran.
He added that the kingdom will provide necessary convenience for the reopening of Iran's embassy and consulate general, as well as for Iranian pilgrims' visits during the Hajj period.
The two diplomats also congratulated each other on Eid al-Fitr.

This was the fourth phone conversation between the two top diplomats after Tehran and Riyadh agreed on March 10 to resume diplomatic ties and re-open embassies within two months, said the Iranian ministry.
On April 6, the two countries announced the resumption of diplomatic relations with immediate effect.
