Malaysia reports 2,491 new COVID-19 infections

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia reported 2,491 new COVID-19 infections as of midnight Saturday, bringing the national total to 4,774,003, according to the health ministry.

There are no new imported cases, with all 2,491 cases being local transmissions, data released on the ministry's website showed.

Another five deaths have been reported, pushing the death toll to 36,196.

There are 34,508 active cases in Malaysia, with 72 being held in intensive care and 49 of those in need of assisted breathing

The ministry reported 3,715 new recoveries, bringing the total number of cured and discharged to 4,703,299.

The country reported 4,233 vaccine doses administered on Saturday alone and 86 percent of the population have received at least one dose, 84.2 percent are fully vaccinated and 49.7 percent have received the first booster and 1.4 percent have received the second booster.

Pakistan

Pakistan recorded 290 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours, the country's ministry of health said on Saturday.

The new infections were detected after diagnostic testing was performed on 13,439 samples.

With the new infections, the total number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 has risen to 1,568,183 in the Asian country, showed the data released by the ministry.

A total of 372 people were reported to have recovered from the pandemic over the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of recoveries to 1,528,517, according to the ministry's statistics.

In Pakistan, 30,571 people have died of COVID-19, with two more deaths reported over the last 24 hours, said the ministry.

Pakistan's southern Sindh province is the worst-hit region with 593,147 infections recorded, followed by the eastern Punjab province, which has reported 520,571 cases.

Vietnam

Vietnam recorded 2,197 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, down by 1,149 from Friday, according to its Ministry of Health.

All the new cases were locally transmitted, said the health ministry.

The newly reported infections brought the total tally to 11,401,597. The country reported a new death from the pandemic in the northern Ninh Binh province on Saturday, bringing the total fatalities to 43,111.

As of Saturday, 161 severe cases were in need of assisted breathing in the Southeast Asian country, according to the ministry.

Nationwide, 10,140,204 COVID-19 patients, or nearly 89 percent of the total infections, have recovered.
