Peshawar celebrates 72nd anniversary of Sino-Pakistan ties

PESHAWAR – China’s global positive role for peace and socio-economic development is a guideline for other countries, according to speakers at an event celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.

Irshad Qaiser, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Law, Parliamentary Affairs, Human Rights, Archives & Libraries, expressed her appreciation for the vital role of China’s stand on international stage as well as the dedication of Chinese leadership and people to their own path of modernization.

“This is high time to learn from China's experience in our fields of life and this learning will be greatly helpful for our social economic development and to counter the challenges we are facing,” she told a Friendship Awards ceremony organized by Pakistan China Friendship Association (PCFA) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa-Pakistan and China Study Centre (CSC) of the University of Peshawar jointly on May 18.

Kausar Takreem, CSC coordinator, said that China and Pakistan have a friendly relationship since they established official ties on May 21, 1951. Both countries supported each other through thick and thin. A large number of Pakistani students are learning at various reputed Chinese universities.

Bao Zhong from the China Embassy in Islamabad noted in an address by video link that the collective rise of China, Pakistan, and other developing countries has had a profound impact on the international landscape.

She thanked the CSC and PCFA for promoting government-to-government cooperation, business-to-business cooperation, and people-to-people contact and looked forward to more fruits from their tremendous efforts in strengthening the bilateral relations.

Zahid Anwar, former director of CSC, University of Peshawar, said that China-Pakistan relations are “higher than the Himalayas, deeper than the Indian Ocean and sweeter than honey.”

“We can learn from China’s hard work and planning” as well as China’s advances in higher education he said.

Muhammad Idrees, vice-chancellor of University of Peshawar, said the leadership of both countries is committed to taking this relationship forward.

Shah Jehan, vice-chancellor of IQRA National University in Peshawar, appreciated the peaceful rise of China in global politics. He highlighted that China gradually is becoming a global leader in the world.

Friendship Awards were distributed among Friend of China from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province.
