HANOI – The 15th National Assembly (NA) of Vietnam concluded its inaugural session here on Wednesday afternoon, with decisions made on top personnel of the state apparatus and socio-economic development plans for the next five years.
The parliament elected and formally approved the personnel in 50 top positions of the NA, the government, top judicial offices, and the state audit office. Among them, Vuong Dinh Hue was re-elected as the chairman of the NA on July 20, and Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Pham Minh Chinh were re-elected as the Vietnamese president and the Vietnamese prime minister respectively on Monday.
Attendees at the session also discussed the country's social-economic and financial situation, and approved relevant medium-term plans as well as the investment policies concerning two national programs on rural development and poverty alleviation.
Vuong Dinh Hue was re-elected as the chairman of the NA on July 20, and Nguyen Xuan Phuc and Pham Minh Chinh were re-elected as the Vietnamese president and the Vietnamese prime minister respectively

Particularly, a socio-economic development plan for the 2021-2025 period was approved, targeting an average annual gross domestic product (GDP) growth rate of 6.5-7 percent during the period.
With the overall goal of ensuring fast and sustainable economic growth on the basis of enhanced macro-economic stability, "Vietnam will strive to become a developing country with modernized industry and escape from the lower-middle-income status," stated a resolution by the NA.
During the session, the NA also made decisions on the lawmaking and supervision programs for 2022, and discussed urgent measures to counter the COVID-19 pandemic, which was temporarily added to the agenda.

Speaking at the closing meeting, NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the session was held successfully and fulfilled all the set agenda, as deputies reviewed and "reached a high consensus on the structure of the state apparatus, which were a key part of the session."
He urged the NA deputies to immediately report the results of the session to voters and call on the people to implement the policies of the Communist Party of Vietnam and abide by the law, especially the current regulations concerning COVID-19 prevention and control.
Kicking off on July 20, the session was shortened twice to conclude eight days earlier than originally planned amid growing COVID-19 concerns in the country.
