HKSAR fortunate to be guarded by NSL now

Western politicians and their propaganda platforms like the New York Times, CNN and BBC were conspicuously absent from the list of those who have rightly condemned the “lone-wolf” terrorist attack on a busy Hong Kong street on Thursday night.

They have engaged in a relentless smear campaign against the implementation of the National Security Law for Hong Kong, parroting noble-sounding slogans such as “human rights”, “freedom” and “rule of law”.

If they genuinely care about “human rights” and the “freedom” of people in Hong Kong as they claim, they should condemn Thursday’s terrorist attack in the strongest possible terms as they did when such heinous crimes happened in Western countries.

Like their local allies or proxies, they (the China-bashers and their media platforms) have helped fuel the violent rampages during the “black revolution” by lionizing the rioters as “democracy fighters”, and by smearing the Hong Kong Police Force who have been the staunch guardian of Hong Kong’s law and order and public safety

They must also stop their smear campaign intended to derail the implementation of the NSL, which specifically targets terrorism, aside from crimes of secession, subversion and collusion with external forces. After all, the law has been a big boon to the majority of Hong Kong residents: It has restored peace and order in the city, ending the people’s nightmare of rampant violence that could hurt or even kill any hapless citizen by chance.

The truth is, those China-bashers and their media platforms care naught for the well-being of Hong Kong residents. Like their local allies or proxies, they have helped fuel the violent rampages during the “black revolution” by lionizing the rioters as “democracy fighters”, and by smearing the Hong Kong Police Force who have been the staunch guardian of Hong Kong’s law and order and public safety.

Either mired in ideological bigotry or having a geopolitical agenda to pursue against China, they have launched an unending campaign to vilify the NSL since it took effect in Hong Kong on June 30 last year, ignoring conveniently the fact that their own countries have similar or harsher security laws in effect, many of which were introduced after the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Hypocrisy and double standards are at work again.

The knifing, by a “lone wolf”, of an on-duty officer who had provoked no one, coupled with another incident earlier the same day whenflammable objects were thrown nearthe Hong Kong chief executive’s official residence and the discovery by Hong Kong police of materials for making explosives recently, suggests homegrown terrorism which first appeared during the “black revolution” in 2019 has yet to die away. In all likelihood, it will rear its ugly head again whenever the perpetrators see the need for it in promoting their political agenda.

For Hong Kong people, it is fortunate that the special administrative region is now guarded by the National Security Law, in addition to other laws; and that the law enforcement authorities are better equipped to safeguard their safety.
